Well, quite simply, advertising in a local free paper for a week is cheap and anyone could pass themselves off as a roofer. It may only cost them £20 to run the advert for the week. Instead, try and do a search on the internet. Google is a good place to start. Do a search for roofers in your area. This will throw up a wide selection of roofing companies to choose from and those who appear in the natural results are likely to be the better quality roofers in your area. This is because Google will have selected their website due to its age, popularity or the number of links it has going to it from other sites. Fly by night roofers (the ones who just take the money and run) will hardly ever have a website, never mind get found naturally by Google.

When your roofer comes round to survey the work to be done, you'll also be able to gauge how well established they are and indeed how credible too. Are they a member of any roofing governing body? Do they have a trading history of 5 years or more and finally, do they have other customers in your local are where they have worked on the roofs?

Choose your roofer carefully and the problem of water leaking through from your roof (or chimney) will soon be fixed.
